Preparations for Year 2 of the Tri-State Parent Portal are officially underway! We are busy working behind the scenes on fresh site updates and expand
As a parent — and someone who has worked in the school field, especially in technology — I understand how challenging it can be to find the information you need. Between school websites, social media pages, calendars, and apps, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed.
That’s why I created the Tri-State Parent Portal — a centralized hub to help families quickly access the most important school-related resources all in one place.
Right now, the site focuses on schools in Lawrence County, Ohio, but this is just the beginning.
Our mission: To make school information easier to access by organizing everything parents need into one convenient, easy-to-use website.
As time goes on, I plan to expand this site to include more schools across Kentucky and West Virginia, continuing the goal of serving families throughout the Tri-State area.
Dates: Friday, August 7 – Sunday, August 9, 2026
Ohio's annual sales tax holiday is back for 2026. For one weekend, you can shop for essential clothing, school supplies, and instructional materials without paying any state or local sales tax.
An item qualifies for the tax exemption as long as its individual price is under the following limits:
Clothing ($75 or less per item)
Includes everyday wearing apparel, shirts, footwear, uniforms, and diapers.
School Supplies ($20 or less per item)
Includes backpacks, binders, calculators, notebooks, pens, pencils, and poster boards.
School Instructional Materials ($20 or less per item)
Includes reference books, textbooks, maps, globes, and workbooks.
No $500 Limit This Year: Unlike the expanded holidays in 2024 and 2025, there is no broad $500 exemption on general consumer goods. The 2026 holiday has reverted strictly to traditional back-to-school items. Items like electronics, home goods, or sports equipment do not qualify this year.
Personal Use Only: The tax exemption applies strictly to personal purchases. Items bought for use in a trade or business are explicitly excluded.
No Total Purchase Limit: The price limit applies per individual item, not your total checkout amount. You can buy multiple qualifying items at once and the entire order will be tax-free.
Online Orders Count: Eligible items ordered and paid for online during the holiday window qualify for the tax exemption, even if they ship or arrive after August 9.
Dates: Friday, July 31 – Monday, August 3, 2026
West Virginia's annual back-to-school sales tax holiday spans four full days, starting the Friday before the first Sunday in August and running through Monday. During this period, state and local sales taxes are waived on qualifying items purchased in-person or online.
An item qualifies for the tax exemption as long as its individual price falls below these limits:
Clothing & Footwear ($125 or less per item)
Includes everyday wearing apparel, school uniforms, and shirts. (Note: Clothing accessories, jewelry, and sunglasses are excluded.)
Computers & Tablets ($500 or less per item)
Includes laptops and tablets purchased for personal use.
School Supplies ($50 or less per item)
Includes standard supplies like binders, backpacks, notebooks, pens, and pencils.
Sports Equipment ($150 or less per item)
Includes athletic gear, protective equipment, and specialized footwear worn for sports or recreational activities.
School Instructional Materials ($20 or less per item)
Includes textbooks, reference books, maps, and globes.
Excludes Business Purchases: The tax holiday is designed strictly for personal use. Any items purchased for use in a trade or business do not qualify.
Per-Item Spending Limits: The price limits apply to each item individually, not your cumulative cart total. You can purchase multiple items in one transaction, and each one under the price cap will be entirely tax-free.
Online Purchases Eligible: Just like in-person shopping, qualifying online orders placed and paid for during the 4-day window are exempt from sales tax.
